About Us

Our Story

Founded in 1966 as Johnson County Montessori School, our academy has grown from a single classroom into a thriving early childhood community dedicated to nurturing curiosity, independence, and compassion.

Today, as Johnson County Academy, we continue to honor our Montessori roots while expanding our focus to embrace the whole child — academically, emotionally, socially, and creatively.

Our Philosophy

We believe education is not just preparation for life — it is life.
Our teachers guide students to explore their world through
purposeful work, hands-on learning, and respect for themselves and others. Each classroom is a carefully prepared environment that encourages independence, collaboration, and discovery at every turn.

Core Values

A young girl with braided hair is smiling while painting on a large white canvas. She holds a paintbrush and wears a green apron. Behind her are shelves filled with art supplies in a classroom setting.
  • Respect for self, others, and environment

  • Joy in learning every day

  • Grace & courtesy in our actions

  • Community & belonging as the heart of education

  • Curiosity & creativity as pathways grow.

Our Mission

We look beyond academics to nurture the whole child—socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. By honoring each area of development, children grow into confident, curious, and compassionate learners.

To nurture confident, curious, and compassionate learners through an environment that honors the whole child and celebrates the beauty of community.
